Chris May Named Among UK’s Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders 2022

Most Ambitious Business Leaders

We are so proud to announce that Chris May, Mayden’s Managing Director, has been listed in the prestigious LDC Top 50 Most Ambitious Business Leaders of 2022.

The Cambridge Dictionary defines the word ‘ambitious’ as ‘having a strong wish to be successful, powerful, or rich. ‘Ambitious’ therefore isn’t a word that most of the Mayden team, or anyone that knows him, would generally associate with Chris – certainly not in terms of his aspirations for himself. He’s not a stereotypical MD and he never has been – in fact he’s quite the opposite (he’s actually quite proud of having one of the less showy cars in the Mayden HQ car park).

The Oxford Languages Dictionary definition is, however, far more applicable when it comes to describing him: ‘having or showing a strong desire and determination to succeed’. Chris is hugely ambitious when it comes to making healthcare better for the services that deliver them and the patients that they serve. In this context we would 100% agree that he does indeed have ambition and a desire to succeed in spades.

20 years, 100 NHS customers, 1 Mission: Transforming Healthcare, Together

Chris founded Mayden in the belief that healthcare could and should be constantly improving and that data and technology could help drive those improvements. The company was born out of Chris’ recognition that health services had a wealth of untapped data at their disposal – data that could provide game-changing insights to consistently improve patient care.

22 years later and that is exactly what Mayden is still doing through collaboration with healthcare providers and other private enterprises. As a consequence of Chris’ vision for healthcare, we are creating software systems that provide data driven insights, genuinely improving how services work, and helping them to deliver better outcomes for their patients, particularly in the field of the NHS’ Improving Access to Psychological Therapies (IAPT) programme.

Chris is looking to the future and wants to take similar transformative technology to other areas of healthcare such as weight management and gambling services, both here in the UK and overseas.

“I’m honoured to have been recognised alongside such esteemed company. If you had asked me before I was nominated, I wouldn’t have considered myself ambitious personally, but on reflection the ambitions I have for Mayden - and for our healthcare clients - have been enduring since I first started Mayden over 20 years ago. Technology has the potential to revolutionise the way that healthcare is delivered, with data driven, patient centred and outcome focussed services that truly support those we love when they are at their most vulnerable."

Chris’ ambition to make healthcare better also extends to the kind of company he wanted to build. Here at Mayden, innovation in healthcare technology goes hand in hand with innovation in ways of working. A few years ago Mayden embarked on a new way of organising the business that saw Chris and the team of directors devolve the management and delivery of projects into the hands of the staff themselves.

As our teams are no longer bound by traditional hierarchical management rules they have the space and freedom to be more creative, pushing the boundaries of what is possible for our customers. His ambition for Mayden was to make his company the best possible place for staff to collaborate, innovate and be happy at work. Sure enough, our annual surveys tell us that 100% of staff are proud to work at Mayden.

Healthcare services and their patients will continue to benefit from data driven technology now and into the future. It is Chris’ and the Mayden team’s ambition that we will be alongside them on that journey.
